At Dotspace, we believe that bringing beauty into our homes should not come at the cost of the planet. As a gallery bridging Eastern artistry with Western living spaces, we are dedicated to mindful growth. We strive to minimize our environmental footprint through conscious curation, local production, and purposeful operations.
We don’t just care about the soul of the art; we care about the world it inhabits.
Our Actions in Practice
1. Local Production & Carbon Awareness
Unlike traditional models that ship finished products across vast distances, Dotspace embraces a ‘Global Art, Local Heart’ approach.
- By partnering with professional printing laboratories within the UK, we aim to significantly lower the carbon emissions typically associated with long-haul international logistics.
- Our limited edition prints are produced on a bespoke basis. This intentional process helps us avoid surplus stock and minimises industrial waste.
- Most original artworks are dispatched directly from the artist’s studio. By streamlining the journey to your home and reducing the need for central warehousing, we work to eliminate unnecessary transit and redundant handling.
2. Materials Designed for Longevity
We curate materials intended to last for generations, actively challenging the ‘throwaway culture’ of modern home décor.
- FSC-Certified Papers: We prioritise premium, sustainable art papers (such as Hahnemühle). By selecting papers sourced from FSC-certified forests, we support the use of timber from responsibly managed woodland.
-
Pigment-Based Inks: Our Giclée prints utilise pigment-based inks. These are chosen not only for their exceptional fade-resistance but also for being a more environmentally conscious alternative to traditional solvent-based inks.
3. Mindful Packaging
Protecting your art should not mean compromising the environment. We are continuously refining our packaging to be as sustainable as possible:
- We prioritise the use of heavy-duty cardboard and reinforced paper-based mailers as our primary protection. While certain elements, such as tape and corner guards, are currently essential to ensure your art arrives safely, we are actively exploring eco-friendly alternatives and aim to maximise the recyclable content of our parcels.
- We advocate for purposeful design, avoiding excessive decorative layers and unnecessary plastic inserts in favour of robust, environmentally-conscious protection.
4. A Digital-Forward Model
By embracing a digital-first gallery model, we reduce the environmental demands associated with maintaining large-scale, climate-controlled physical storage and the carbon costs of frequent international travel for art viewing.
5. Our Ongoing Journey
Sustainability is a journey of continuous improvement, not a fixed destination. Dotspace pledges to:
- Regularly review our supply chain to collaborate with partners who share our environmental values.
- Explore innovative ways to further reduce single-use components in our shipping process.
- Adhere to UK environmental guidelines while striving to implement best practices across our operations.
How You Can Join Us
We invite our collectors to support this mission by:
- Repurposing or Recycling the packaging your artwork arrives in.
- Investing in high-quality art intended for a lifetime of enjoyment, rather than short-lived, mass-produced décor.
